Dentures in Annapolis, MD

Why Are Dentures a Tooth Loss Solution?

If you are missing teeth, your speech, chewing, and appearance have probably been affected. These can all be restored with dentures, which are custom dental appliances attached to a dental implant or special frame. They can withstand daily wear for more than 10 years with proper maintenance, which makes them a wise and affordable option for a lifetime of dental health.

Do You Have a Choice in Dentures?

Yes, our practice offers many kinds of affordable quality dentures. We invite you to come in for a dental evaluation so our dentists can examine your smile and explain the best denture options for you. We have answered the most common questions about the various types of dentures below.

How Do You Know If You Need Full Or Partial Dentures?

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, you will want a full denture because it can replace all of the natural teeth in the top or bottom jaw. With this denture, our dentist will remove any teeth you still have, and then give you a temporary denture to use until your gums have totally healed. As soon as your gums have healed, your permanent denture will be placed. You can select from a fixed full denture that stays secure with dental implants, or a removable full denture that gently sits on top of your gums and gets pulled out for nightly cleanings.

However, if you only need to replace one or two missing teeth, you can opt for a partial denture that lets you keep your healthy existing teeth while you replace the ones you have lost. A partial denture is built on a framework similar to a bridge, but rather than being permanent like a bridge, it simply attaches to the surrounding teeth with clasps. This makes it easy to remove nightly for cleaning.

Why Is a Flexible Partial Denture Worthwhile?

This type of denture has lightweight and pliable clasps and a very soft foundation instead of the metal clasps and hard base of a traditional partial denture. This makes it much more comfortable to wear. And, it’s gum-colored material is more discreet than bright metal, so nobody will be able to tell that you have replaced your teeth with a denture.

Why Would You Choose Implant-Supported Dentures?

If you don’t want a denture that loosely lays on your gums, an implant-supported denture is a more secure solution because it connects to two or four dental implants. This type of denture is usually used to replace your lower teeth because they demand more stability than your upper teeth. Just recognize that you must remove and clean it every evening as you would with a traditional denture.

What Are the Benefits of All-on-Four Dentures?

This is a popular dental implant method that uses only four implants to secure a full set of replacement teeth in your bottom jaw. It’s the ideal choice if you want greater chewing strength and the confidence and convenience offered by a fixed denture.

Does It Take a Lot of Time to Get Dentures?

Absolutely not, yet the exact procedure will depend on the type of denture selected and your overall dental condition. Typically, you will first have our dentist measure your mouth and take a dental impression of your teeth to create the most comfortable denture for you. Any unhealthy teeth are then extracted and you are sent home with a temporary denture to wear until the permanent version is made. But, if you are getting an implant-supported denture, your dentist will embed your dental implants at this point instead.

Upon completion of your full or partial denture, you will come back to our office to have your permanent denture fit and get any adjustments needed.

Do Dentures Have to Be Expensive?

It’s difficult to say how much dentures cost because many factors determine their price, such as any dental preparation required, the type of denture you get, and the price of its materials. You will be happy to know that our dentists can provide you with affordable quality dentures regardless of your budget or dental condition. What Makes a Soft Reline for Dentures Unique?

A soft denture reline is comprised of a flexible dental material that stays bendable for several years. This makes it a more comfortable alternative to the hard acrylic lining used in a traditional denture.
